Spring Break Activities If You Are Staying Home

Everyone loves a beach trip for Spring Break, but not everyone can afford to travel. Sometimes staying home is the best decision — especially if you want to avoid crowds. So when you’ve decided to stay home for Spring Break, here are some fun ideas to try.

Base Camp

Want to get some fresh air for you and the kids? Set up a tent in the back yard, if you have space to do it. Make s’mores over a small firepit, and bring plenty of mosquito repellent. It’ll be a fun night for the kids, and you might even catch a feeling or two of nostalgia for the days when you hung out in your own backyard after the sunset, chasing fireflies and making fun memories by camping out. No back yard? No problem! Lots of small tents can fit into an apartment or townhouse, so you can put up a tent in a common area so that the youngsters can play pretend. One of the cool ideas about an indoor camping “retreat” is that you have an excuse to tell your children that you’re roughing it without devices. It’ll be a great time to reconnect with one another in a way that you might not have time to do during your busy day-to-day lives.

Make A Mess

If you’ve got the space, you can set your kids up in the back yard with some inexpensive shaving cream and some non-toxic food coloring. Let them go crazy with it, but have some clean, dry towels and a hose nearby. Let the kids have a blast “attacking” one another … it’ll be a fun, no-stress way to give them a way to go wild and burn off some energy. And then you’ll be able to hose them down and dry them off in order to go back inside for an easy Spring Break meal. (Or better yet, cook out and enjoy some freshly grilled food in the fresh air.

Clean Up A Mess

You can always have a work day in the yard with the kids, removing old leaves, trimming hedges, and generally getting your yard ready for summer. This will have the added benefit of not only keeping your children occupied, but also doing something worthwhile around the house.
