How To Make Snow Globes

Snow can transform a mundane landscape into a breathtaking view, but you don’t have to wait for a snow day to enjoy it. You can make a lovely snow globe and enjoy the transfixing view of shimmering snow whenever you want. Follow this guide from Martha Stewart to learn how.

Materials

The first thing you should do is gather all of your crafting materials. Head to your favorite arts and crafts store and pick up the items listed below:

• Glitter
• Glycerin
• Sandpaper
• Clear-drying epoxy
• Oil-based enamel paint
• Glass jar
• Plastic or ceramic figurines of your choice
• Synthetic evergreen tips

Step 1

Grab your ceramic paint and add a festive color to your jar by painting the jar lids something vibrant and bright. A deep green or red color will work wonderfully.

Step 2

You will need a coarse surface to affix your figurines to, so sand the inside of the lid until it becomes rough. Then, using the clear-drying epoxy, attach your figurines to the lid. It’s a good idea to test out a few arrangements before you apply the epoxy. This way you can be certain that you will be happy with the finished product. Be sure to leave a little space between your figurines and the outer edge of the jar. There needs to be enough room for you to screw the lid on. Also, be careful not to cover the ridges in the lid with epoxy or it will not screw on completely.

Step 3

Next, fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water. You don’t want to fill it to the brim. You still need room for the water to slosh around. After you have filled the jar with water, add a pinch of glitter and a dash of glycerin. The glycerin will keep the glitter from falling to quickly, but if you add to much it will have the opposite affect and the glitter will stick to the bottom instead of floating.

Step 4

Finally, screw on the lid. Be careful not to detach your figurines. Turn the jar over, swirl it around, and let it snow.
