History of the C300 and the C-Class

The first Mercedes-Benz C-Class models arrived in 1982 when it was a compact sedan designed to appeal to those seeking a midrange vehicle. The early C-Class models, including those from 1994, didn't show any of the flaws of other vehicles of the time, such as cheap materials, iffy safety, or a lack of power. Instead, the C-Class has always been powerful, safe, and filled with luxury features. The early C-Class models had up to 194 horsepower, and this figure only increased until 2000 when the generation ended. That generation also had high-end safety, like emergency brake assist, side airbags, and stability control.

The popular and powerful AMG models joined the C-Class lineup in 1995 and options grew for 2001. The first year of this generation had the C240 with 168 horsepower and the C320 with 215 horsepower. For 2002, Mercedes-Benz added the C320 wagon, a 349-horsepower C32 AMG, and a supercharged hatchback, the C230 Kompressor. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system you know and love arrived in 2003 on wagons and sedans, which is also the same year the automaker added a C230 supercharged sedan, a C240 wagon, and a C320 hatchback coupe. The 2006 overhaul brought new styling and names like Sport and Luxury. The first C300 model arrived in 2008, accounting for two of the four models available at the time, the C300 Luxury and C300 Sport. These models had a 228-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 engine and available 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
